Those attending the class included: John Milner, Gail Misener, Cindy Peters, Cindi Fung, Toni Russell, Diane Hopkins, Teri DeGonia, Celeste Faro, Andrea Tabor, Linda Campanile, Barrie Gilliam, Valerie Gurr, Janette Nottingham, Barbara Harris, Kathleen Robinson, Marianne Couture, Roberto Osornia, Shannon Cain, and Wilson Fryar.
Women make of 50 percent of Habitat's volunteer force; yet often because of lack of training, they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. "These training classes for the Women Build are designed to encourage the involvement of women on our build sites and to grow our construction teams traditionally made up of men" said Celeste Faro, Executive Director.
The next class will be held on Tuesday, Sept 2nd and will teach the basics of power tools and safety on the site.
To attend the training classes, a volunteer needs to attend an Habitat volunteer orientation. The next volunteer orientation will be held on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. at 701 S. Tennessee St. , McKinney , Texas .

On Tuesday, July 29, the sacred ground at 905 Maples in McKinney was broken on the FIRST EVER Habitat Women Build Home in North Collin County . Beatrice and Justo and their three children couldn’t stop smiling as they threw the dirt up for the start of their new family home.
Women make up 50 percent of Habitat’s volunteer force, yet often because of lack of training, they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. This build hopes to increase that involvement. Nationally, more than 60 percent of Habitat for Humanity’s houses are built with women heads of household. These women are often dependent upon the goodwill of neighbors, friends and relative for even minor repairs. By receiving training as part of the build, they are better equipped to maintain their homes and, consequently, are more confident in their ability to cope with day-to-day situations
The Lowe’s Women Build clinics will help train more women to be able to lead the build and take a more active role in the construction. The first clinic will be August 19th on “How to Frame Walls and Roof”. Five more clinics will also be held including “How to use hand and power tools, How to Install Exterior Siding, How to Install Roofing Shingles, How to Install Insulation and Drywall and How to Finish Interior with paint and Trim.”
Justo and Beatrice Rojas were selected by North Collin County Habitat for Humanity to receive a new home in 2008. Family support mentors Rory and Shari Dahl immediately “fell in love with this family.” Justo and Beatrice were born in north Texas , and both were raised in the McKinney area. After prayerful consideration they have decided to build in their “home” town of McKinney , TX and raise their family in this great community. They have three beautiful children, Adrian (6), Isiah (6), and Alliyah(2). Justo (“J”) and Beatrice love their children with all their hearts and have committed their lives to providing a loving, family first lifestyle for their kids. Being selected as a habitat family and the thought of having their own home has been a miracle come true. They never dreamed something like this could happen to them and are deeply appreciative of the sacrifices others are making on their behalf. Justo works for the Little Elm Parks department and aspires to become a McKinney policeman. Beatrice works for Frisco Eye Associates. Their hobbies include spending time with their children and dreaming of their new home.
Sponsors for this home are Lowe’s, Mr & Mrs Jack Shelby, Chiropractic Wellness Center , Cindy Peters and many other individual women.
