Habitat breaks ground on six new homes
These are homes, said Jim German, chairman of the North Collin County Habitat for Humanity's 2006 Builder's Blitz. Six families broke ground on the sites of their new homes at the North Collin County Habitat for Humanity's Builder's Blitz groundbreaking ceremony Sunday that will become part of the Charleston Creek subdivision. Before the official groundbreaking, city and council officials welcomed the families including the Devin Garcia family, the Empress Drane family, the Christine Kunclrs family, the Ann Husband family, the Terry Ann Garcia family and the Alfred Oku family to the neighborhood and thanked the businesses and people who helped Habitat for Humanity bring these homes to fruition. “My experiences with Habitat for Humanity have been good, worthwhile things,” McKinney Mayor Bill Whitfield said. “It's been one of those things that if you don't like doing, well you don't like helping people because that's what all this is about...my experience with Habitat for Humanity has been very rewarding.” German said these six homes are part of a nationwide goal of Habitat for Humanity Builder's Blitz, which aims to build 700 homes within the next year. He said they were not just breaking ground on six new houses. “We're breaking ground on six new homes for families who will be affected by this for years to come by the generosity of companies that contributed to this project for years to come,” German said. Those companies and entities who donated time, manpower and money to the construction of the six new homes including the city of McKinney, the McKinney Community Development Corporation, W.R. Hodgson & Co., D.R. Horton, Paul Billingsly Builders & Realtors, Darling Homes, Drees Homes, Jones & Boyd Inc., K. Hovanian Homes, Mercedes Homes and Stonebridge United Methodist Church, German said. McKinney City Councilwoman Gilda Garza said there are a lot of things that make McKinney a unique place to visit, but organizations such as these and people who work with the Northern Collin County Habitat for Humanity make it a special place to live. “No matter what it is, there's a sense that we need to come together to make it a better place,” Garza said. “There's a sense that we need to come together to make it a better place for everyone.” Contact Danny Gallagher at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . |
