What Help Will be Needed!
Construction Needs!
By Wilson Fryar Construction Director
We had a successful construction leadership organizal meeting on June 21 st. We are having ANOTHER MEETING JULY 12 th AT 6 pm HERE AT THE OFFICE.
Anyone interested in committing to lead 3 or 4 volunteers to leading an entire house build is encouraged to attend. We are trying to get a list of leaders so that we can spread the work load no one feels they are pushed to do more than they commit to do.
We are also looking for licensed plumbers and electricians who will donate their help on 1 house a year. We can find volunteers to help them, we just need their leadership and skill.
I am working on a list of non-leaders/unskilled volunteers who want to work during the week.
We have commitments from Brian Flage to be House Manager on the Bull (Celina) build and Teri Degonia to be the House Manager for the Govea (Catholic) build. With our goal of 10 houses a year, we need at least 10 House Managers so that they only need to do 1 per year.
Please come to the meeting on the 12 th or contact me.

Helping Families
A Dream Fulfilled for Maria and her Family
Jason Huggins, Family Support
Maria Canela's new Habitat home cannot get here fast enough. Currently living in an apartment, Maria is the proud mother of 4 children; Isaac (18 years), Irvin (16 years), Cassandra (11 years), and Abel (7 years). Originally from Zacatecas, Mexico, Maria is 1 of 11 children in a big but very close family. Raised in a small town, she spent much of her youth attending church under the watchful eyes of her grandparents. She married and came to the U.S. 20 years ago and has lived in the Dallas area for the past 13 years.
Now raising her children on her own, Maria and has been a resident of McKinney for the past 3 1/2 years. She is employed by Blockbuster in McKinney where she works as a forklift operator. Maria mostly enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the park with her kids, and taking walks in the evening. Her children, Isaac and Irvin, are interested in drawing and sketching and also spending time with their friends. Maria's daughter, Cassandra, loves to read and spends countless hours lost in the pages of her favorite books. Maria's youngest son Abel spends much of his time playing with his cousins.
Maria has worked relentlessly accumulating her sweat equity hours and has done a great job so far. She's a familiar face on the Habitat construction sites and cannot wait to help build her own home. She's so excited about the lot she has picked out as well as her new house plan. A proud and caring mother, Maria wants nothing more than to raise her children in a nice, safe home, and feels so blessed and humbled by the wonderful people that work for Habitat and support its cause.
Blockbuster, her employer, will build Maria's home along with Trinity Presbyterian Churches of McKinney & Plano, Redeemer Presbyterian and the Jack Ford Shelby Family Foundation.
