“Smiles for Habitat”

Sunday May 25th, 5-10 pm benefiting Habitat for Humanity

Fireworks will fly to help Build homes on Memorial Day weekend in Adriatica.  A FREE family concert will be held featuring the Maylee Thomas Band and headliner Country Artist Chris Cagle.  Entitled “Smiles for Habitat,” this family event will feature a concert, jump houses, food, and a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

All proceeds from this event will help build a home for the Glenda Alons family during the North Collin County Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz. 

Glenda Alons is a manager at Tom Thumb in Richardson and has worked there for the last seven years. She is also partially deaf, as she was born with nerve damage in her ears, though you wouldn’t know it when you are talking to her - she doesn’t let it get in her way. Glenda is a proud Mom to three great kids - Brittney, a teenager ready to start driving, Grant, a talkative and very busy ten year old, and Levi, almost one and precious.

I think we hear the words “single mom” so often now that we forget, or maybe have never even thought about what that means. For Glenda it has meant two full-time jobs at work and home. It’s the hardship of getting kids to school, what to do when they’re sick, grocery shopping, laundry, baths, cleaning…need I say more. Now add the full time job with odd hours and her commute. She is doing all of this and still getting her Habitat hours in with diligence and a good attitude.

She is so thankful to STEP Builders Homes of Distinction, MjBrown Distinctive Homes and all of their work, and the support of Dr. Jennifer Buchanan. This home would not happen without their support.
